How DecisionPoint works

Create interactive dashboards and performance applications for frontline workers

Lay out your dashboard exactly how you want

Quarterly sales by region in a table? Headcount by department in a bar chart? With more than 50 different components to choose from you can be sure you will be able to present your data just the way your business wants to see it. Simply drag and drop the grids, charts, filters, labels, buttons and images you want to include onto your canvas using a free-form layout. It really is incredibly quick and easy.

Use multiple data sets in one dashboard

Want to view HR and finance data side–by–side? Want to pull in some sales numbers, too? DecisionPoint gives you the flexibility to add multiple data sets into your dashboard or app and doesn't restrict you to merging data sources on the server only. You can even create calculations in across multiple data sets. This gives you the best of both worlds and allows you to respond quickly to changing business needs and tactical requirements.

Watch your data spring into life

As you drag–and–drop components onto the canvas DecisionPoint automatically fills them with data. With a point and a click you can change the default column selections to ensure you are displaying exactly the data that you need.

See your numbers at any level of detail

DecisionPoint is "aggregate aware", so whatever columns you choose to display your data is automatically summarized at the correct level of detail. Want to see revenue by month, headcount by department or gross margin by store? If the data is in your data set, DecisionPoint will total it up and calculate it for you — keeping things simple and saving you time.

Point–and–click to add custom columns

Need to add a column that isn't in your data set? A key performance indicator perhaps, like averages sales value, conversion rate or margin percentage? No problem! Choose from a raft of familiar math, date and text functions to create an expression — it's as easy as creating a formula in Excel®.

Complete % On-Time %
79.9% 91.3%
79.4% 91.8%
79.9%% 80.1%%
79.9%% 80.1%%

Apply alerts to keep track of performance

To keep track of performance, for example to ensure that key performance indicators are on target, DecisionPoint lets you implement color-coded alerts to grids, graphs and maps. Specify when an alert should be triggered using the same point—and—click expressions you use to set up custom columns. Alerts are "aggregate aware" too, so they are applied correctly, whatever level your data is summarized at.

Provide drill–down out of the box

Business users will want to drill into their data when they find anomalies. With DecisionPoint this interactivity comes built-in — no need for coding. In fact, there's no need to do anything. As your users interact with their data by tapping on a chart or table to drill, all of their components automatically remain in sync which means your dashboards and apps behave exactly as your users think, so they don't need training to use them!

Filter data on the fly

DecisionPoint provides a rich variety of controls to allow your users to filter the data in their dashboard dynamically. These include filter, drill and tab bars, list boxes, radio buttons and tree controls and all are flexible and easy to apply. Want a list box that filters by year? Simply drag and drop a list box onto the dashboard canvas then point–and–click to select the year object. When a user picks a year from the list box, all their components will filter automatically. And it gets better. DecisionPoint gives you total control over your filters so you can filter a single component or a group of components as well as the whole dashboard, giving you the freedom to view your data exactly how you want to see it.

Answer follow-up questions by adding custom workflows

What use is a dashboard that only answers one question? A good interactive dashboard or performance application provides multiple views of data and implements custom workflows to make it easy and intuitive for end-users to get answers to their follow-up questions, as well as their immediate ones. This is the point where many BI tools either fall down or require you to resort to scripting or coding. With DecisionPoint you set up multiple views of your data with big buttons, pages, tabs and views - and then point-and-click to specify behaviors which define the custom workflows you want. All without writing a single line of code!

Empower your business users to ask "what if?"

What if sales reduce by five per cent? What if we increased our abandon-rate by one per cent? These are common questions business users ask, which can easily be answered by DecisionPoint. This is done by adding a "what if?"-style analysis in your dashboard using sliders and other data input controls to allow users to test different scenarios.

Apply a gorgeous theme to deliver a professional look

A great-looking interface is sure to grab your users' attention. With our out-of-the-box themes you can change the look and feel of your dashboards and apps to fit your business. If you want to apply your own corporate brand you can create your own custom theme, or we can create one for you. Themes are based on CSS3.

Design quickly for multiple devices

You probably need to deliver information to multiple devices. Using the unique LivePreview, save time by viewing a live interactive version of your dashboard on each target device as you design. This way you can be sure your dashboard looks as great on a desktop browser as it does on an iPad, and you never have to endure the endless design-publish-preview-loop again. It really couldn't be easier!

Collaborate with business users in real-time as you design

Once you've built your first app and are ready to share it, you can use LivePreview to engage users - wherever they are in the world - as you design, and collaborate in real-time to solicit their feedback and implement their change requests in front of their eyes. Collaboration using LivePreview is the key to retaining your users' support and enthusiasm throughout the project, ensuring you deliver the information your business really needs, that will be widely adopted.

Write-back to your database

Dashboards are usually read-only, where they present information for business users to help and guide them to make better informed decisions. But sometimes you want your business users to be able to capture additional data from their dashboard and then write this information back to your database. For example to allow a line manager to check a box to approve a list of their team's expenses or to allow a program manager to input several variables as part of a financial planning exercise and then save these scenarios. On such occasions, DecisionPoint allows you to write-back to your database.

Works hand-in-glove with Big Data databases

With high–performance, Big Data databases DecisionPoint can delegate drill and filtering directly to the source, bypassing its own server cache. This allows users to roam over enormous data sets while still enjoying great performance. Uniquely, thanks to ACP, DecisionPoint dynamically generates the queries needed to retrieve each subset of data on the fly. So, you can use all the power of your Big Data database without having to create and maintain a mountain of queries – now that's a huge time–saver.
